About Medicine Bow Studio

Mission

My mission is to create a community of well rounded musicians pursuing excellence in violin and fiddle playing. My students are nurtured and encouraged to bring to light their natural talents in a fun and positive environment while gaining countless life enriching benefits.

Private Lessons

Private Lessons are scheduled as a weekly standing appointment. I offer 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons for students of all ages over 3. You are rarely too young and never too old to play music! I encourage parents of children under 10 years old to attend lessons so they can help their children practice at home. It is extremely helpful for all students (or parents of students) to take notes, pictures, video and audio recordings to help facilitate home practice.

Group Lessons

Group Lessons are scheduled monthly and are included in the tuition. These lessons are a lot of fun and bring a terrific sense of community among students. No one can motivate or inspire us like our peers! We learn new tunes, jam old tunes, prepare for performances, and work on supporting each other with multi-part harmonies and rhythmic back up.

Performance
Opportunities

Performance opportunities are scheduled throughout the year and include solo performances, group performances, contests, and student jams. Preparing to perform for family, friends and the larger community inspires us to work hard toward concrete goals. The sense of accomplishment we get from performing (and preparing) is priceless!

Practicing

Practicing at least five days per week is expected in order to make progress. It’s a good idea to set aside the same time each day so that it becomes a daily routine. Being prepared for lessons and performances is an important factor in keeping motivated and having fun.

Tuition

Tuition is calculated in three sessions throughout the year:

Spring (mid January-May),
Summer (June-August)
Fall (September-mid December).

The cost for each session varies depending on the number of weeks, but to give you an idea, 30 minute lessons come out to about $160 a month including a monthly group jam. Email Katy to get a copy of the current session schedule with exact tuition amounts. Students are welcome to start in the middle of a session at a pro-rated cost if space is available.

Tuition is not adjusted due to missed lessons, however each student is offered one free make up at the end of each session.
